Spatial Statistics

Spatial statistics is the statistical study of data that are referenced by their location in space. Whereas in most statistical analyses observations are assumed to be independent, in spatial statistics the focus is on modelling and exploiting the dependence structure that arises when nearby observations tend to be more similar than distant ones. This course examines both the mathematical theory underlying spatial models and the many scientific applications that rely on them from environmental monitoring to epidemiology. The course will cover the following topics:
